Panel Interface Connectors

Mencom Panel Interface Connectors (PICs) mount to the outside of the control panel and allow access to the PLC or PAC without having to open the control cabinet.

A typical PIC will contain a power supply (single, duplex, GFCI) and one or more connectors commonly used for programmable devices.  These connectors include D-Sub, RJ45/Ethernet, USB, DeviceNet, and others. Often there will be a 3-amp reset as well.

Having this pass-through is invaluable when looking at the OSHA standards, in hand with NFPA 70E, that require anyone opening control cabinets to have training and wear protective gear. In the end, PICs save time and money by allowing for maintenance and testing through access ports without the need for a trained electrician to de-energize the system.

Description of Other
Panel Interface Connectors (PIC's) provide an easy to use safe method in which to interface with whatever controller, computer or PLC might be housed in a control panel. With over 2000 designs, Mencom PIC's utilize just about any type of connector you can image. The list below includes some of the more common "Other" connectors we provide. These include BNC, MIN Din, Fiber Optic, Coaxial, Firewire, and video. Contact us if you do not see the connector you need on any of these lists. If it can fit within one of our housings, we can make a custom PIC for your application.

Description of Resets
Panel Interface Connectors (PIC's) with a power port are often supplied with circuit breakers to protect the delicate electronics within a control panel. Mencom provides circuit breakers (resets) with different trip points for different applications. A 3amp is typically used to help insure that the current draw on the outside of the box does not run the risk of shutting down a machine, however, 5amp, 10amp, 15am and 20amp resets are also available.
10R = 10amp reset 15R = 15amp reset
20R = 20amp reset 5R = 5amp reset

Description of Data
Many Mencom Panel Interface Connectors, (PIC's) are also configured for Allen Bradley’s ®* Data Highway System. In this case, the 9 pin D-Sub and/or the 8 pin MIN-DIN are connected to a 3 pin pluggable terminal block commonly used with "Blue Hose" applications. Below are a few of the more commonly used 8 pin MIN-DIN and 9 pin D-Sub configurations.
